In 994 Tegrimo del fu Ildebrando gave his wife Sinderada the fourth part of the properties he had in various places, including a curtis and a church dedicated to S. Maria located in Arnano. In the middle of the thirteenth century, Arnano was the seat of a little municipality of Siena with a road linking Siena to Volterra. Today you can still see a big stone tower, unfortunately much altered over the centuries and the most recent restoration, which preserves the sloping base and traces of the original openings.
