Valley of Temples
The famous Park of the Temples, located in the province of Agrigento (Sicily), extends for about 1300 hectares and preserves an extraordinary monumental and landscape heritage that includes the remains of the ancient city of Akragas and the surrounding area to the sea. In the Valley of the Temples, declared in 1997 by UNESCO "World Heritage Site", there is one of the largest archaeological complexes in the Mediterranean. Akragas was one of the most important Greek colonies in Sicily, covering about 450 hectares, founded about 582 BC by settlers from nearby Gela and Rhodes. The classical Greek style makes it very similar to the Parthenon of Athens, which we can define its "older brother". Particularly striking is the night view, with the accurate lighting system that highlights the entire contour of the work.
