Cella Monte (Alessandria)

Cella Monte, a charming village located in the province of Alessandria, is included in the list of “The most beautiful villages in Italy”; not only: the Vineyard Landscapes of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato have been recognized by UNESCO as 50th Italian World Heritage Site. Cella Monte is located in the core-zone of the sixth component of the site “Il Monferrato degli Infernot”.
The origin of the village is probably to be traced back to medieval times; in fact, the first documents to mention the name “Celle” can be traced back to measures taken by the emperors Arrigo V and Federico I, both from the 12th century. In 1863 the Mayor Luigi Vallino, obtained to add “Monte” to the name of the municipality, because it is located on one of the most beautiful hills of Monferrato. The subsequent request to reconvert the new name into Cella Monferrato fell on deaf ears.
The municipality today, situated as mentioned above on the hills of Monferrato, certainly offers a wide choice of excellent local wines. Moreover, the same area is also famous for another product of gastronomic excellence, the white truffle: a festival organized in the municipality of Cella Monte in the first weekend of November is entirely dedicated to it.
