Nice place 92 – Rose Garden (Florence)

The Rose Garden is a real green oasis located right in the center of Florence.
Here you can admire about 400 varieties of roses and a total of 1200 plants: in particular you can see the collection of roses, lemon, tillandsia and other botanical rarities.
The garden, located just below Piazzale Michelangelo, also offers a picturesque view of the historic center of Florence.
It was built in 1865 by the same architect of the square, Giuseppe Poggi, on behalf of the City of Florence in anticipation of the move of the capital of Italy from Turin. Today, the street where the garden is located is dedicated to the same architect.
Recently, the garden has been enriched with works of art and sculptures by the Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon, donated to the City by the widow of the artist and the Japanese oasis Shorai created by the architect Yasuo Kitayama on the occasion of the twinning of Florence with Kyoto.
